The Sweet Nasi Lemak

Lua Aik Nya: 

Aunty Lai works in an army camp. She has a stall at the canteen which initially sold snacks and drinks.

She saw how tired the soldiers were and decided they should have some hot food after their hard day at training and decided to make nasi lemak for them.

But she didn’t know how to cook and added lots of sugar to the Nasi Lemak, thinking it will enhance the flavour. The soldiers were too polite to comment. One time she tested it herself and realised it tasted strange.

So she went to join a culinary class to learn from a Nasi Lemak master. After 2 years of hard work she finally received a chef certification.

She now serves delicious Nasi Lemak at the camp.

Hugo Ng: 

Hugo is a new recruit at the camp. His dream is to be a soldier.

Being the first time away, he misses home and training is really hard.

He was feeling really down after training and went to the canteen. A familiar whiff of Nasi Lemak reminded him of home and how his mama always cooks nasi lemak for him.

He ate the Nasi Lemak and felt revived and refreshed and this renewed his determination and dedication to his goal.

He finally graduated as the best recruit. He shared his joy with aunty Lai and he looks forward to bring the medal home to his mama.
